Paatal Lok Review: This year has not been that special in terms of web series. There has not been any web series that has set a trend like ‘Sacred Games’ or ‘Mirzapur’ among Hindi audiences. But now perhaps the audience has got something similar. There is an unmatched thriller along with tremendous crime, that too served on a realistic platter. Everything is like that which is happening around you.

Amazon Prime Video’s web series ‘Paatal Lok‘ started creating its own buzz after the trailer. It is produced by Anushka Sharma with the direction of Sudip Sharma. At the same time, there is the hard work of actors like Neeraj Kabi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Abhishek Banerjee and Gul Panag. Let’s know how we liked this web series of Amazon Prime Video…

Story

The story is about a policeman. His name is Hathiram Chaudhary (Jaideep Ahlawat). He is posted in the Outer Yamunapar police station of Delhi. According to Hathiram’s WhatsApp University, there are three worlds in the world. Swarg Lok – where big people live. Dharti Lok – where he lives. Patal Lok – where he is posted. There is a bridge in Hathiram’s area. In a special operation of Delhi Police, four criminals are arrested on this bridge. Hathauda Tyagi, Top Singh, Chini and Kabir M. They are accused of conspiring to murder media tycoon Sanjeev Mehra (Neeraj Kabi). Sanjeev Mehra is a famous TV journalist wearing white calves and a black coat. A hero at one time and today zero in TRP. This case is handed over to Hathiram. There are many aspects in the case, which Hathiram has to solve. Hathiram has to tell not only the police department, but also his family that he is a hero. Is he able to solve the case? To know this, you will have to watch the web series. What is special

The list of things that make a web series special is long, so the matter should be understood in a systematic manner.

1. Sudip Sharma has proved himself in terms of direction. Sudip has previously written films like ‘NH 10’ and ‘Udta Punjab’. He has kept the web series very simple. As the episodes progress, it captures you so much that you keep entering ‘Paatal Lok’. Sudip has an equal grip on local language, location and color. You will hear Punjabi in the scenes of Punjab. English in the high society of New Delhi, and Bundelkhandi in Chitrakoot of Uttar Pradesh. You will never feel that the matter is going astray.

2. Direction has got a great support from acting. Jaideep Ahlawat, who played the character of Shahid in the first part of ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, has appeared in full form. The expressions on his face are like water. A troubled policeman who is fighting at home, society and office. Jaideep has portrayed the happiness, sorrow and worry of that policeman with intensity on his face. Jaideep’s fellow policeman Ishwak Singh also gives full support in terms of acting.

Neeraj Kabi looks great in the role of a professional journalist. From his Urdu with dots to Sanjeev Mehra’s fluent English in Netflix’s ‘Taj Mahal’, Neeraj looks perfect everywhere. On the other hand, Abhishek Banerjee, who plays the character of Hathauda Tyagi, has not spoken much. But his eyes say everything. Gul Panag plays the character of a housewife with utmost ease.

3. The story is the soul of this web series. It successfully tries to cover the events happening in today’s India. The most important thing is that the thriller and suspense remain intact till the last moment. The series takes a twist in every episode, but you can never be predictable. There are many such dialogues, which will also provide meme material to the people. Like – this is written in the Puranas, but I have read it on WhatsApp. Sudip Sharma, Gunjeet Chopra, Sagar Haveli and Hardik Mehta have done a good job together.

4. The technical side of the series is strong. Most of the shooting has been done on real locations. Even if it is not, you do not realize it. From drones to close shots, you get to see every angle of the camera. Overall, the technology makes it easy to watch. Especially the filming of the violent scenes is commendable.

Where did the shortcomings remain

It is not that the web series is completely clean and top-notch, which has no shortcomings. Paatal Lok also has some shortcomings.

1. The end of the web series is a little disappointing. It could have been crafted in a better way. Perhaps the writer should have thought a little more about this.

2. There is a lot of violence and abusive words. Although these have been used in Sacred Games and Mirzapur as well. But in these cases, excess could have been avoided.

3. Some episodes in between are a little slow. Where the story seems to stop. However, this happens when you have already got used to it. You may not even realize this.

4. Paatal Lok is politically very sensitive. There is a thin line of difference in such matters. Some people may object to some scenes.

Conclusion of Paatal Lok Web Series Review

If we remove some issues from the web series, then it takes you on a journey from Paatal Lok to Swarg Lok. The thrill is at its peak while watching the series. After a long time, something great has come in the crime genre in Hindi web series. Perhaps the second season of Paatal Lok is going to be a Yaksha Prashna along with Mirzapur for Amazon Prime Video. People are going to compare it with Netflix’s ‘Sacred Games’.
