Crew Movie Review: The era of heroine-oriented films has started in Bollywood. It is true that now heroines are not just decorative dolls, they can do action along with love and romance, they can also fight terrorists. In the last few films, our heroines have been seen doing all this and now director Rajesh Krishnan has presented Crew with A-listed actresses like Tabu, Kareena and Kriti, in which these seasoned heroines not only commit robbery but also make you laugh. There is no doubt that the director has presented the heroines in a new color without depending on any hero, but if he had kept his grip on the story, then undoubtedly this could have proved to be an amazing film.

Story of the film ‘Crew’

The story starts in a fun way, in which there are three air hostesses. Geeta Sethi (Tabu), Jasmine Kohli (Kareena Kapoor) and Divya Rana (Kriti Sanon). All three of them work for Vijay Walia’s (Saswata Chatterjee) Kohinoor Airlines. All three of them, along with 4000 employees of the airline, have not been paid for 6 months. After a family and property dispute, Geeta is living a middle class life with her husband Arun (Kapil Sharma) struggling with financial difficulties, while she wishes to open her own restaurant.

‘Crew’ Review

After her parents’ divorce, Jasmine is living with her maternal grandfather (Kulbhushan Kharbanda). Her dream is to open her own company one day and become its CEO, while Divya was also a Haryana topper at one time and dreamed of becoming a pilot, but now she has remained just an air hostess. However, Divya has lied to her family that she is a pilot. In short, all three of them are going through a financial crisis. The twist in the story comes when one day their senior Rajvanshi (Ramakant Dayama) dies in flight and on duty these three find gold biscuits on his dead body, seeing which they get tempted, but at that time their integrity stops them from stealing those biscuits. Later when they come to know that their airlines has gone bankrupt and Vijay Walia has fled abroad, then to fulfill their dreams they get ready to make money by joining hands with their HR Mittal (Rajesh Sharma) who is involved in gold smuggling. They are unaware that Divya Rana’s old acquaintance and custom officer Jaiveer (Diljit Dosanjh) and his team are keeping an eye on these three.

What is strong and what is weak in ‘Crew’

Director Rajesh Krishnan starts the story in an exciting way with scenes from the past and present. The mood of the film is quite comic and that is why the entertainment does not decrease in the tension scenes. In the beginning, there seems to be novelty in the story as well. Another plus point of the film is that unlike other heroine-oriented films, this heroine-centric film does not raise the flag of any feminist issue but takes the path of entertainment. The story moves fast till the interval, but after the interval it becomes quite convenient. The flaws of the screenplay also start getting exposed in the second half. The plot of robbery by the three heroines seems childish and when these three resolve to take back the country’s gold, the mood of the story gets disturbed. However, many one-liners like ‘Just watch Titanic, the rich satre boat mein baith kar nikal gaye aur gareeb bechare drowned’ are witty. In the second half, the film entertains in bits and pieces. Some scenes have been hastily wrapped up to control the run time of 2 hours and 4 minutes. Talking about the technical and musical aspects, John Stewart Edery’s background score is superb. Songs like Ghaghra, Choli Ke Peeche Kya Hai and Sona Kitna Sona Hai have been recreated while the song Naina sung by Diljit Dosanjh and Badshah has turned out well. The costume department of the film deserves praise. They have presented all the three heroines in a very stylish manner. Anuj Rakesh Dhawan’s cinematography is attractive.

Cast of ‘Crew’

If we talk about acting, the acting of all the three well-known actresses is the strong backbone of the film. Tabu has looked great in her rough and tough role of Geeta Sethi. She makes people laugh a lot with her abusive words and one-liners and at the same time does not forget to show responsibilities and desires, while Kareena’s acting in the role of Jasmine is excellent. She has lived the character of Jasmine, who runs after her dreams beyond morality, with complete fearlessness and this is the reason why the audience falls in love with her character. Kriti has not let herself get overshadowed between two veteran actresses like Tabu and Kareena. Their performances are also strong. Kapil Sharma is memorable in his little screen space, but he should have been used more in the film. Diljit Dosanjh has done justice to his role, but a capable actor like Shashvat Chatterjee has been wasted. Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Rajesh Sharma are solid in their roles. The supporting cast is decent.
